10
April 19-May 10, 2025
10 is a collaborative exhibition presented by ten emerging artists from the Junior class in the Kansas City Art Institute Sculpture department. Diverse backgrounds ranging in discipline culminate to become a collection of works unabashed by experimentation in form, concept, material, and space. The gallery becomes a vessel for conversation tackling notions such as the body, gender, and being.
Electroplated cicada shells, playful ceramic compositions, paper mache, and produce encased in rice paper create compelling pockets for inquiry. This exhibition provides undergraduate students with invaluable experience in organizing and exhibiting work within an artist-run space. Their experimentation is evident in the wide variety of materials, processes, and content within the exhibition.
This moment marks the beginning of their artistic careers—a year before receiving their BFAs, this is an opportunity to engage with the community, refine their voices, and glimpse the possibilities ahead. Each artist brings something wildly unique, strengthened by their dedication to growth, exploration, and the simple fact that they share space–physically and creatively–every day.
